Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 5, 2026

This policy explains what information On The Alpenglow collects when you visit onthealpenglow.com, what happens to it, and what choices you have. The site is run by Alpenglow Adventures, LLC, based in Breckenridge, Colorado, United States.

If you have questions about any of this, email heidi@onthealpenglow.com.

The Basic Information

I collect an email address if you give me one, basic anonymous data about how people use the site, and nothing else on purpose. Google and Meta both receive analytics data about your visit. I use affiliate links, which means some outbound gear links can earn me a commission at no extra cost to you. I don’t sell your information. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time, and you can ask me to delete what I have.

Information You Give Me

Email address. When you download a free resource or sign up for the newsletter, I collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name. This is stored and sent through MailerLite.

Contact messages. If you send me a message through the site, I receive whatever you put in it, including your name and email address.

Purchases. Digital products are sold through Payhip. When you buy something, Payhip and its payment processors collect your name, email address, billing details, and payment information. I can see your name, email, and what you bought. I never see or store your full card number.

Instagram messages. If you comment on a post and receive an automated direct message, that exchange happens inside Instagram and is handled by ManyChat. Instagram’s and ManyChat’s own privacy policies govern that data.

Automatically Collected Information

Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics, connected through the Google Site Kit plugin, to understand which pages people read and how they arrived. This collects things like your approximate location, device and browser type, pages viewed, and time on page. It is aggregate and I do not use it to identify individuals.

Meta Pixel. This site carries a Meta (Facebook) advertising pixel on every page, and the Payhip storefront carries one as well. When you load a page, Meta receives a record of the visit along with your IP address, browser information, the page address, and any Meta cookies already in your browser. Meta uses this for advertising measurement and audience building. This is subject to Meta’s own privacy policy, and you can limit it through your Meta ad settings and through your browser’s cookie controls.

Server logs. The web host records standard access information, including IP addresses, as part of running and securing the site.

Cookies. Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them for basic functionality and for the analytics and advertising tools described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.

Affiliate Links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same. I only link to gear I have actually used or would recommend to a friend, and a commission never changes what I say about something.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Some outbound gear links are monetized through Benable, which handles the retailer relationships and pays me a share of what they earn.

Affiliate links on this site work two ways. Some go directly to the retailer. Others pass through a short redirect address on this domain, which sends you on to my Benable list and then to the retailer. That redirect is a link management tool and does not collect personal information about you. When you click through, Benable and the retailer receive the click and may set their own cookies.

Once you click an outbound link, you are on someone else’s site under their privacy policy, not this one.

For the full picture of how money works on this site, including gifted products and sponsored content, see the Affiliate Disclosure page.

Email

If you sign up, you’ll receive the resource you asked for plus occasional emails about camping, trips, and new guides. MailerLite processes and stores this list and records basic engagement data, such as whether an email was opened and which links were clicked.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and I won’t email you again unless you sign up again. You can also email me and ask to be removed.

I do not sell, rent, or trade email addresses.

Third Party Services

I use third-party services to run the site. They only receive what they need to do their job:

  • MailerLite: email list and delivery
  • Payhip: product sales, checkout, and file delivery
  • ManyChat: automated Instagram direct messages
  • Benable: hosted gear recommendation lists and affiliate link handling
  • Google (Analytics and Search Console): site analytics
  • Meta: advertising pixel on this site and on the storefront
  • GreenGeek: hosting and server logs

Beyond these, I share information only if legally required to.

How Long Information Is Stored

Email addresses stay on the list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for order support and tax purposes. Analytics data follows Google’s retention settings. Contact messages are kept until they’re no longer useful.

Your Choices & Rights

Wherever you live, you can ask me to tell you what information I hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email heidi@onthealpenglow.com and I’ll take care of it.

If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to processing, restrict it, request a portable copy of your data, and complain to your local data protection authority.

If you’re in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. I do not sell personal information for money. Please note that the Meta advertising pixel described above may count as sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. If you would rather it did not run, you can block third-party cookies and trackers in your browser, or use a browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal.

Children

This site is about taking kids outside, but it is written for adults and is not directed to children. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given me information, email me and I’ll delete it.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS and I use reputable third-party providers for email and payments. No website can promise perfect security, but I don’t hold sensitive data myself. Payment information never reaches my servers.

Links To Other Sites

This site links to campgrounds, agencies, retailers, and other blogs. Once you leave, their privacy practices apply, not mine.

Visitors From Outside The United States

The site is operated from the United States and information is processed here. If you’re visiting from elsewhere, you’re consenting to that transfer.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date.
